Origin and history
Saint-Cyr de Saint-Cyr-sous-Dourdan is a Catholic parish church dedicated to Saint Cyr, located in the Essonne department, Île-de-France. It is located near the Ferme des Tourelles, in the village of Saint-Cyr-sous-Dourdan. The building has various architectural elements, bearing witness to several epochs, with a base dating from the 12th century and subsequent major transformations.
The church preserves remains of the twelfth century, including the base of the tower tower and the gate, while the bell tower itself dates back to the thirteenth century. A significant reconstruction took place in the 16th century, during the reign of Francis I, in the flamboyant Gothic style. This mixture of periods reflects the architectural and religious evolution of the region, where parish churches played a central role in community life.
The furniture and stained glass windows of the church date mainly from the 19th century, illustrating a more recent phase of renovation or beautification. Since February 3, 1966, the building has been listed as historic monuments, recognizing its heritage value. This official protection underscores its importance in the religious and architectural landscape of the Essonne, while ensuring its preservation for future generations.
