Origin and history

The church Saint-Omer de Serques is a religious monument located in the commune of Serques, in the Hauts-de-France region. Although its name evokes a dedication to Saint Omer, bishop of Therouanne in the seventh century, the sources available do not specify its date of foundation or the stages of its construction. Its architecture and evolution therefore remain to be studied in more detail.

Parish churches like Serques played a central role in the life of the rural communities of Hauts-de-France. In places of worship, they also served as social and cultural landmarks, often hosting gatherings, local festivals and major events in collective life. Their presence reflected the importance of religion in the organization of villages, especially before the Industrial Revolution.
