Origin and history

The church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens de Bassignac-le-Haut, located in the Corrèze department in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, is a Catholic religious building built in the 16th century. It is distinguished by its late Gothic architecture, including its western porch, three-span nave, and flat choir. A side chapel opens over each span of the nave. The whole is covered with arches with a dogive cross, enriched with liernes and thirdons, whose veins fall on carved caps, a rarity in the region. The cover is made in lauze, typical of local constructions.

The church was listed as historic monuments on 4 February 1988, recognizing its heritage value. It houses four altar paintings of the eighteenth century, also protected: Saint Roch, Saint John the Baptist, Presentation of the Rosary to Saint Dominique and Saint Catherine of Siena, and Christ on the Cross. These works illustrate the artistic and religious importance of the place throughout the centuries.

The building, owned by the municipality, consists of carefully preserved architectural elements, as indicated by its sheet in the Mérimée base. Its exact address, 7 Place de l'Église, and its Insee code (19018) confirm its anchoring in the territory of Bassignac-le-Haut, in the former Limousin region, now integrated into New Aquitaine.
