Origin and history
The Saint-Laurent church of Arc-sous-Montenot, located in the Doubs department in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, is a religious building built in 1837 to replace a previous church deemed too small. His plans were drawn up by architect Alphonse Delacroix, marking a milestone in the evolution of local heritage. The bell tower, later added in 1930, completes a sober structure but representative of the liturgical needs of the 19th century.
The entire building, including its access staircase, was listed as historical monuments on November 20, 2018. This protection recognizes its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its preserved religious furniture (honey to preach, retables, statues, etc.). The church now depends on the parish of Levier, in the dean of Haut-Doubs Forestier, under the authority of the diocese of Besançon.
The church furniture, rich and varied, includes liturgical elements such as secondary altars with their altarpieces, statues of saints (Laurent, Jerome, Louis, Agnes, etc.), as well as a reliquary-ostensor dedicated to Saint Laurent. These objects, often dated from the 19th and 20th centuries, bear witness to local devotion and religious practices of the time. Their conservation contributes to the transmission of the cultural and spiritual heritage of the region.
