Origin and history
The church Saint-Sébastien de Champétières, located in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, dates from the 15th century. It is distinguished by its unique three-span nave architecture, with a square apse and dogive vaults. A walled porch, accessible by stairs, supports a rectangular bell tower flanked by a hexagonal tower with a screw staircase. Under this porch, a Carolingian stone altar bears witness to an ancient religious occupation.
The building was historically dependent on the abbot of the Chaise-Dieu and the archpriest of Livradois, annexed to the parish of Saint-Priest de Bertignat. His choir houses a altarpiece of the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries, decorated with torso columns, a canvas of the Nativity, and statues of saints. The Eternal Father, carved on a semicircular panel, seems to have a separate invoice.
Classified as a historical monument by decree of 11 June 1990, the church belongs to the commune. Its architecture combines Gothic elements (dogive vaults, geminied openings) and Baroque additions (table), reflecting its evolution throughout the centuries. The presence of a Carolingian altar suggests a cultural continuity since the early Middle Ages.
The location of the building, specified as passable (level 5/10), corresponds to the address: 63600 Champétieres, in the Puy-de-Dôme. The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its heritage interest, especially for its choir woodwork, protected by the inscription of historical monuments.
