Origin and history

The Church of St. Tremor of Kergloff, located in the Finistère, is a religious building whose construction dates back mainly to the sixteenth century. It consists of a nave flanked by low side, a transept and a square bedside, while a small openwork bell tower, topped by a stone arrow, crowns the western gable. The entrance porch, located on the south side, gives access to an interior marked by a walled frame, partially decorated with paintings dated 1751 and 1858. This monument, formerly attached to the truce of Cléden-Poher, reflects local architectural and artistic developments over centuries.

The sacristy, added in 1697, and the bell tower, modified several times (notably in 1720, 1736 and 1891), bear witness to successive works. Among the remarkable elements are a 16th century stained glass window and the panel of the choir and transept, painted in 1751 by an artist named Herbault. The building, restored in 1858, was inscribed in the Historical Monuments by order of 26 December 1927. Its history is part of the rural context of Brittany, where parish churches played a central role in community and spiritual life.

The church of Saint-Treumeur also illustrates the evolution of decorative and structural techniques in Brittany, from the Renaissance stained glass windows to the 18th century painted panelling. Its bell tower, rebuilt in 1891, marks a last major transformation before its ranking. Today owned by the commune of Kergloff (code Insee 29089), it remains an architectural testimony of local dynamics, between late medieval heritage and modern adaptations.

The church's location on Place Saint-Tremeur and its approximate address (21 Rue Sébastien le Balp) underline its anchoring in the village. Although cartographic accuracy is considered mediocre (level 5/10), its status as a Historical Monument and its rich stratigraphy make it an emblematic heritage of Finistère. Available sources, including Monumentum and Merimée data, confirm its importance in the Breton religious landscape.
