Église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine (cad. A 1367): inscription by order of 21 December 1992
Origin and history
The church Sainte-Marie-Madeleine des Orres is a religious building located in the commune of Orres, in the Hautes-Alpes department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built between the 15th and 16th centuries, it embodies the religious architecture of this period in an area marked by its mountain isolation and pastoral traditions. Its designation as historic monuments in 1992 reflects its heritage value and the desire to preserve this local heritage.
At that time, mountain churches like the Orres played a central role in community life. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, often scattered in remote hamlets. At that time, local life was punctuated by agricultural activities, breeding and religious festivals, which strengthened social cohesion in those territories with sometimes difficult living conditions.
