Origin and history

The church Saint-Quentin de Channay-sur-Lathan, located in the Indre-et-Loire department in the Centre-Val de Loire region, is a building built over centuries. Originally built in the 12th century, it preserves a nave of this time whose ancient facade is now masked by a bell tower later added. The latter, erected in the 16th century, dominates the west of the building, although its current belfry is a modern reconstruction. The nave, restored and capped, leads to a span of arched square choir on dogives cross, extended by a semicircular apse, characteristic of Romanesque architecture.

In the 16th century, a northern side chapel was attached to the choir, preceded by a collateral attached to the nave. This collateral will itself be extended to the west in the 19th century, marking the last major transformation phase of the building. The oldest and most remarkable element of the project has been protected for historical monuments since 21 April 1948 by ministerial decree. The choir span, vaulted and connected to the northern chapel, bears witness to stylistic evolutions between the Middle Ages and the modern era.

The church, owned by the municipality of Channay-sur-Lathan, thus embodies almost nine centuries of architectural and religious history. Its bell tower of the 16th century, though partially redesigned, and its apse classified it as a representative example of the rural heritage of Indre-et-Loire. The available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base) confirm its territorial anchor, with a precise location in the place of the Church, in the heart of the village.
