Origin and history
Saint-Maurice-de-Roche Church is a Catholic church located in the commune of Roche-en-Régnier, Haute-Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 11th and 12th centuries, it embodies Romanesque architecture with a structure marked by a nave of two vaulted bays in a full hanger cradle, supported by square pillars. Its sides, vaulted in cloister arch, and its transept surmounted by a dome on tubes, underline its originality for the era.
Ranked a historic monument by order of April 2, 1942, the building is distinguished by its five-sided exterior bedside, concealing a main apse and three arched apsidioles in cul-de-four, integrated in the thickness of the walls. The square bell tower, pierced by large bays and accessible by an external staircase, crowns the dome of the transept. These architectural elements reflect both local influences and a remarkable technical mastery of the novel builders.
The church property belongs to the commune of Roche-en-Régnier. Although the sources do not specify its current use (regular culture, visits, events), its classification and conservation reflect its heritage importance. The descriptions available, from Wikipedia and the Merimée base, highlight its architectural and historical value, without mentioning specific characters or events related to its construction or subsequent history.
