Origin and history

Notre-Dame de Selles Church is a religious building located in the commune of Selles, in the department of Eure in Normandy. Built between the 13th and 14th centuries, it embodies the medieval sacred architecture of this region. Its registration as a Historic Monument by order of 24 November 1961 bears witness to its heritage value recognized by the French authorities.

In medieval times, churches like Notre-Dame de Selles played a central role in the lives of rural communities. They served not only as a place of worship, but also as a gathering point for the inhabitants, marking social, agricultural and religious rhythms. In Normandy, a region with a strong historical identity, these buildings often reflected local architectural influences, sometimes mixing Romanesque and Gothic elements according to the periods of construction.
