Origin and history

The church of Saint-Cieux de Lancieux, located in the Côtes-d Although the current structure dates from 1769, it incorporates older elements, including a massive square granite tower and some remains of the 14th and 16th centuries. These traces testify to his belonging to the former bishopric of Saint-Malo and the dean of Poudouvre, stressing his central role in local parish life.

The octagonal bell tower, characteristic of the church, is distinguished by its parabolic edges and an oculus surmounted by a curved pyramidal roof, supported by columns. This architectural detail contrasts with the square base of the tower, pierced with rectangular windows with curved lintels. The entrance door, decorated with a triangular pediment and a carved tympanum, reflects the classic 18th century influence. Only the bell tower has been protected under the Historic Monuments since a decree of December 21, 1925, attesting to its heritage value.

The building, owned by the municipality of Lancieux, illustrates the architectural evolution of the Breton churches, mixing medieval heritage and Baroque modernization. Its location, in the heart of the village (5 Rue de l'Islet), and its approximate location (cartographic precision considered fair) make it a historical and cultural landmark for the region. Available sources, such as Monumentum and Merimée data, confirm its status as a key element of local heritage.
