Origin and history

The Saint Martin church of Finhan, listed as a Historic Monument, is a building dating back to the 14th century. Although partially ruined, it retained the base of its medieval bell tower, a key architectural element that allowed its subsequent reconstruction. This vestige bears witness to its historic importance in the Toulouse region, marked by a tradition of brick construction.

In the 17th century, the church was redesigned with the addition of a new three-storey octagonal tower, topped by a brick arrow. This characteristic style reflects the influence of the Toulouse school, known for its religious buildings combining medieval robustness and baroque elegance. The arrow, an emblematic element, illustrates the adaptation of local techniques to architectural developments of the time.

The church bell tower Saint Martin was classified by ministerial decree on 20 October 1947, thereby recognizing its heritage value. Owned by the commune of Finhan, located in the Tarn-et-Garonne department (Occitanie region), the building remains a symbol of local religious and architectural heritage. Its location, in the heart of the village (3 Place de la Mairie), makes it a central point of community life.

Available sources, including the Merimée and Monumentum base, highlight the importance of this monument in regional history. Although the details of its current use (visits, rentals, etc.) are not specified, its past role as a place of worship and visual landmark in the urban landscape of Finhan is undeniable. Localization, noted as "a priori satisfactory" (level 6/10), allows to consider further studies or visits to deepen his knowledge.
