Origin and history

The Cinéma Éden, created in 1913 in Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire in Nièvre, is an emblematic building of the 1935s Art Deco style. Located on the edge of Nohain, it is distinguished by its northern facade and its two entrance buildings, which were listed as historical monuments in 1999. This independent cinema, labeled "Heritage of the 20th Century" in 2005, was completely renovated in 1993-1994 by architect Jean-Claude Pourtier, preserving its historic character while integrating modern technologies such as digital projection and 3D since 2012.

In 1931, Cinema Eden marked local history by broadcasting the first talking films. Repurchased by the municipality in 1988 under the mandate of former mayor Jacques Huyghues des Étages, it became a major cultural place, attracting more than 55,000 spectators in 2011 for 1,728 sessions. Its interior features posters and photographs by celebrities, and it is now sponsored by Catherine Deneuve and Bruno Putzulu. Accessible to people with reduced mobility, it also keeps a 35 mm projector in its living room.

The architecture of the building, representative of Art Deco, makes it one of the most beautiful cinemas in the region. Ranked for its façade, edicles and grid, it illustrates the golden age of the early 20th century cinemas. The Musée de la Loire dedicated a publication in 2008, highlighting its heritage importance. Its official address, 2 rue Saint-Aignan, makes it a central point of the cultural life of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire, between cinematographic memory and technical innovation.
