Oppidum de Cuers

    L'Adrech du Castellas
    83390 Cuers

Origin and history

It is an archaeological monument located in the commune of Cuers in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Although its existence is attested, the available sources do not specify its exact construction period or its detailed history. The current internal data do not allow the precise date of this oppidum or describe the architectural or historical specificities.

Oppidas, in general, were fortified places that played a central role in the organization of protohistoric or ancient societies. They often served as shelters, political, economic or religious centres for local populations. In southern France, these sites were strategically located on heights, facilitating the defence and control of surrounding territories.

Their study sheds light on the lifestyles, exchanges and social structures of the communities of the time.
