Origin and history
The Town Hall of La Côte-Saint-André is an emblematic monument located in the city centre of this Dauphinois commune, close to the Halle and the Louis XI castle. Built in the 16th century, it embodies the civil architecture of this period and occupies a central place in municipal life. The building, which has been partially listed as a historic monument since 1983, now houses the local administrative services, including the municipal council hall and the civic state.
The building is located at number 2 of the rue de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, in the old town centre. It is adjoining two other historical monuments: the Halle de La Côte-Saint-André and the Hotel de Bocsozel. These three buildings form a remarkable architectural ensemble, a witness to the city's urban history. The staircase on the courtyard and the gallery in return, protected elements, were inscribed by ministerial decree in 1983.
La Côte-Saint-André, located in the Isère department (region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), was historically a Dauphinese town. In the 16th century, this region was marked by a hierarchical social organization, where public buildings such as this city hall played a central role in local administration and community life. These buildings served as a decision-making venue for municipal affairs and as a representative of local government.
The partial designation of historical monuments in 1983 preserved some significant architectural elements of the building. This protection specifically concerns the staircase on courtyard and the gallery in return, characteristic of Renaissance civil architecture. The building remains the property of the municipality and continues to house municipal services.
