Origin and history
La Croix du Cleyssac is a monumental cross located in the hamlet of Cleyssac, near Route 71 from Malrevers to Rosières, in the Haute-Loire department. Dated from the 15th century, it is carved from a single holding in a block of sandstone, including the cubic base, the conical barrel and the cross itself. His iconography includes a Christ on a cross under a label on one side, and a Virgin in majesty holding a child with distorted proportions on the other. The arms of the crusillon bear stylized representations of the sun and moon.
The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by order of 11 June 1930, thus recognizing its heritage value. The barrel, of rectangular cross-section, has a strong conicity, while the cross-section takes a very cut shape. The Virgin, dressed in a short tunic and a long robe, holds the Child Jesus whose arms are placed symmetrically with hers. This monument, owned by the municipality of Malrevers, illustrates local medieval religious art and its symbolism.
The available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée database, specify that the cross is located at approximately 5001 Cleyssac Cross in the municipal territory of Malrevers (Insee code 43126). Its conservation status and exact location are considered satisfactory (level 6/10). No information is provided on its current accessibility or tourist use.
