Origin and history
The Maison du collector, located in Tourcoing, Hauts-de-France, was built in 1913 by architect Jean-Baptiste Maillard for Ernest Desurmont, an industrial and painter. The latter, a great lover of antiquities, integrated on the facade recovered elements such as columns, carved stones, wrought irons and even a door from the old prison of the town hall. These choices give the house a unique character, combining eclecticism and historical heritage.
Inside, the small volumes are decorated with old woodwork, adapted to the dimensions of the spaces. The decor, inspired by the Flemish Renaissance, reinforces the originality of the ensemble. The Desurmont family, having made a fortune in the painting used for Michelin tires, embodied the alliance between industry and artistic passion at the beginning of the 20th century.
The house, classified as Historic Monument in 2021, also includes the fence walls of the back garden. His exact address, 3 square Winston Churchill, and his architect, Jean-Baptiste Maillard, are clearly documented. The accuracy of its location is considered fair, with a score of 5/10 depending on available sources.
