Origin and history
The Collège des Oratoriens de Notre-Dame-des-Grâces is a historic monument located in Chambles, in the Loire department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the first half of the 17th century, it consists mainly of a church, facades and roofs of communes, as well as a hermitage. These architectural elements were protected by an inscription under the Historic Monuments in 1984, attesting to their heritage value and preservation.
At that time, the region was marked by a social organization strongly influenced by the Church and religious orders. Colleges like Oratorians played a central role in the education and spiritual life of local communities. They also served as places of retreat and prayer, reflecting the importance of faith and teaching in 17th-century society.
This type of monument thus illustrates the religious and cultural heritage of France of the Ancien Régime.
