Origin and history
The Colmar Toy Museum is a space dedicated to toys and games, covering a period from the 19th century to the contemporary era. Inaugurated in 1993 in the walls of an old neighborhood cinema, he exhibited over 1,000 pieces on three levels, ranging from old toys to video games, small models and miniature trains. A particular feature of the museum is its network of trains extending all over the second floor, as well as an offer of board games accessible to the public. Temporary exhibitions, like BAN! Toys banned in 2025 complete the permanent journey.
The origin of the museum dates back to 1985, when Georges Trincot, a colmarian painter and collector of ancient toys, and Pierre Patoor founded the Association of the Animated Museum of Toys and Small Trains (MAJEPT). Their goal: to create a toy museum in Colmar. In 1987, the City of Colmar acquired Georges Triincot's collection, which forms the basis of future exhibitions. The management of the project was entrusted to the MAJEPT association in 1990, before the city took over the administration directly in 2024, while maintaining a partnership with the association.
The museum's collections are enriched over the years by purchases and donations from individuals. In 2024, a recast of the permanent course was initiated, with an emphasis on the preservation of the pieces and their dissemination through temporary exhibitions and educational workshops. The museum aims to reach all audiences, combining fun heritage, social history and contemporary innovations.
