Origin and history
The Colomby Presbytery is a Catholic religious building built in the 18th century in the department of the English Channel in the commune of Colomby in Normandy. It is located precisely in the places named Le Village de l'Église and Le Jardin du Presbytère, on 15 Rue de l'Église. This monument illustrates the ecclesiastical rural architecture of the period, with a closed set of walls including houses, commons, wells and garden, whose interior of the house still retains its original arrangements despite a degraded state.
The building was partially listed as historic monuments by order of 18 November 1996, a protection covering the houses, the facades and roofs of the communes, the well, as well as the fence walls with their gates and gates. Owned by the commune, the presbytery was reconverted to accommodate the services of the town hall, marking a transition between its initial religious use and a civil administrative function. The protected elements reflect the heritage importance of this site, both for its architecture and its historical role in local life.
According to available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum, Merimée base), the presbytery is part of a coherent architectural complex of the eighteenth century, typical of Norman rural presbyteries. The Mérimée base specifies its official address (50700 Colomby) and its Insee code (50138), attached to the borough of Saint-Lô. Although its inner state is described as bad, its external structure and its layout (garden, well, fences) remain intact testimonies of this period, emphasizing its interest in the history of Christian architecture and communal heritage.
