Facades and roofs: inscription by decree of 6 December 1935

Origin and history

The corner house with wooden strips of Saint-Brieuc is a building located in the heart of the city, in the Côtes-d'Armor department in Brittany. This monument is distinguished by its half-timbered structure, typical of traditional Breton architecture. Although its exact construction period is not specified in the available sources, its style suggests an ancient, probably medieval or reborn origin, common for this type of building in the area.

Ranked among the Historical Monuments since a decree of 6 December 1935, this house is protected for its facades and roofs, architectural elements representative of the local heritage. It is located at a symbolic crossroads of Saint-Brieuc, between the Place de la Préfecture, the Place du Martray and the Place du Général-de-Gaulle. This type of log house often played a central role in urban life, hosting commercial, artisanal or residential activities, reflecting the social and economic organization of Breton cities throughout the centuries.
