Origin and history
La Ferme du Cornet is a farm located in the commune of Saulcy, in the Aube department, in the Grand Est region. This monument, whose origins date back to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, bears witness to the rural architecture typical of this period. Its buildings, including the barn, the entrance tower, the househouse and the dovecote, reflect the farming practices and lifestyles of the peasant communities of the time.
The farm was listed as a historic monument in 1993, recognizing its heritage value. This classification protects specific elements such as the facades, roofs of the house, as well as the barn and dovecote. These protections are intended to preserve the authenticity and integrity of this site, which offers an overview of the agricultural and architectural history of Champagne-Ardenne.
Like many farms in this region, the Cornet farm probably played a central role in the local economy, combining agricultural, livestock and sometimes handicraft activities. These farms were often organized around a central courtyard, with buildings dedicated to specific functions, such as the storage of crops or the housing of owners and workers. Their preservation now allows us to better understand the social and economic dynamics of the French countryside of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
