Façades and roofs of the buildings of the Couvent farm, including that of the tithe barn (Box F 97, 98): inscription by order of 17 May 1988
Origin and history
La Ferme du Couvent de Couvray is a historical monument located in the commune of Couvray, Seine-et-Marne (77), in the Île-de-France region. This site, whose origins date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, is representative of the Conventual Farms of this period, often related to farming and land management by religious communities. The buildings retain architectural elements characteristic of these epochs, such as facades and roofs, which were protected by an inscription under the Historical Monuments in 1988.
The inscription by decree of 17 May 1988 specifically concerns the facades and roofs of the buildings of the farm, including a building named the tithe barn. This type of barn, commonly associated with convents or abbeys, was used to store tithes, taxes in kind collected by the Church. The location of the farm, at 7 B Route de Chalifert, is attested by the data of the Merimée database and GPS coordinates, although the accuracy of this location is considered a priori satisfactory (note of 7/10).
The monument, although classified, does not have detailed information in available sources about its current accessibility (visits, rental, accommodation). His history thus remains mainly related to his past agricultural and religious role, as well as to his recent heritage preservation. The photographs available, such as Grefeuille's under Creative Commons license, allow us to appreciate its current state, but little detail is known about its contemporary use or possible restorations.
