Origin and history
La Crèmerie, located at 13 rue de Rougemont in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, is an emblematic monument of the 4th quarter of the 19th century. This trade, whose front was classified by ministerial decree, bears witness to the architecture and urban uses of this period. Its inscription as a Historic Monument in 1984 underlines its heritage importance, especially for its style representative of Parisian boutiques of the time.
The front of the Creamery, protected by an order of 23 May 1984, is the only officially listed element as Historical Monument. The building now belongs to a private company, and its exact address (13 rue de Rougemont) is documented in the Mérimée base. Although available sources (Monumentum) do not specify its current use, its location in a central district of Paris suggests a historical role in the commercial and daily life of the 9th arrondissement.
The 9th arrondissement, at the end of the 19th century, was a district in full transformation, marked by the rise of local shops and Haussmannian beautification. The cream shops, like the one on Rue de Rougemont, played a key role in the supply of dairy and cheese products to Parisians. Their front, often worked out, also reflected the aesthetic and advertising concern of the time, where crafts and retail trade flourished in a city undergoing modernization.
