Origin and history
La Croix de Belon is located near the place known as Bellon, in the commune of La Croix-Hellean, in the department of Morbihan (British). Dated from the 17th century, this cross-table is distinguished by its stone-cut architecture, with an altar-shaped base and a monolithic octagonal barrel. She presents sculptures in high relief: a Calvary on one side, and a Virgin with Child surrounded by two women on the other. These representations are surmounted by a straight pediment, typical of the Breton crosses of that time.
The cross was restored in 1990, but its origin dates back to the 16th century for some parts. It has been listed as historic monuments since 29 March 1935, recognizing its heritage value. The monument, owned by the commune, is located on a rural road (Belon Road) and constitutes a remarkable example of local Christian art, mixing religious (table of offering) and symbolic (sacred representations).
Its base, conceived as an altar, suggests liturgical or commemorative use, while the sculpted characters at the angles reinforce its narrative character. Approximate location, rated as fair (level 5/10), indicates moderate accessibility. Available sources (Wikipedia, Monumentum) highlight its integration into the landscape of Morbihan historical monuments, while mentioning incomplete cadastral data (not cadastral).
