Stone cross (Box B 202): Order of 19 September 1963

Origin and history

The stone cross of Nucourt is a listed historical monument located in the cemetery of this town of Val-d'Oise. Dating from the 16th century, it represents a typical example of monumental crosses erected in cemeteries or at intersections during this period, often linked to religious or commemorative functions.

The classification of this cross by decree of 19 September 1963 bears witness to its heritage value. It is now owned by the commune of Nucourt, whose Insee code is 95459. Although its precise location is estimated to be "passable" (note 5/10), it remains a local historical landmark accessible within the cemetery.

The stone crosses of the 16th century, like that of Nucourt, were generally associated with the religious life of the villages. They served as gathering points for processions, prayers, or marked burial places. Their presence also reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the social and spatial organization of the rural communities of the time in Île-de-France.
