Origin and history
The monumental cross of Rupt-sur-Saône is a religious building built during the first half of the seventeenth century. Located in the commune of Rupt-sur-Saône, in the department of Haute-Saône, it is located in front of the local church. This monument, typical of the religious architecture of the time, bears a commemorative plaque.
The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by order of 7 July 1989. It belongs to the commune and bears witness to the importance of Christian symbols in the social and cultural organization of Burgundy-Franche-Comté in the seventeenth century. At that time, monumental crosses were often used as spiritual or commemorative landmarks for local communities.
The available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its precise location at the 3 Chemin de la Vigne Rouge. The accuracy of this location is estimated as satisfactory a priori (level 6/10), and a photo licensed under Creative Commons, attributed to Ginette Mathis, documented the monument in the Merimée base.
