13th century stone cross once placed in the cemetery: by decree of 30 November 1912
Origin and history
The Huppy Cross is a 13th century stone historic monument. It was once placed in the cemetery of the commune, as evidenced by the archives. This type of medieval cross often served as a religious and funeral landmark for local residents, reflecting the importance of the Christian faith in the daily life of the time.
Ranked by ministerial decree on 30 November 1912, this cross is now owned by the municipality of Huppy. Its precise location, at 46 Rue de l'Eglise, has been validated with an accuracy deemed satisfactory a priori (level 7/10). The data available are mainly from the Merimée database and the Monumentum platform, without reference to any restoration work or specific contemporary uses.
In the 13th century, the Hauts-de-France region, and more particularly the historical Picardie, was a rural and agricultural area, marked by the presence of religious buildings such as this cross. These monuments played a central role in the spatial and social organization of villages, often linked to parishes and funeral practices of the medieval era.
