Granite monolithic cross, of the Brassée (Box ZO 39): inscription by decree of 13 February 1929

Origin and history

La Croix de la Brassée is a monolithic cross located at the place of Brassée, in the commune of Guillac, in the department of Morbihan (British). It is distinguished by its lack of base and granite material, typical of the ancient monuments of the region. The cross, broken under arms around 1890, was later restored to preserve its integrity.

Classified as historical monuments by decree of 13 February 1929, this cross bears witness to the religious and architectural heritage of Brittany. Its sober style and monolithic invoice suggest a very old origin, although the exact period of its construction is not documented in the available sources. It illustrates the importance of the crossroads or crossroads in the cultural and spiritual landscape of rural Brittany.

The available data highlight its inclusion in the inventory of historic monuments, but do not specify its sponsor or the exact context of its creation. Its current location at 10 Rue de la Brassée and its cadastral code (ZO 39) are, however, clearly referenced in the official archives (Mérimée database).
