Origin and history
The cross of crossroads, called La Pierre Percée, is a cross of paths located in Lorrez-le-Bocage-Préaux, in the Seine-et-Marne department (Île-de-France). Dated from 1615, it has been listed as a historical monument since October 4, 1946. Its name comes from the space formed between the base and the table, a remarkable architectural peculiarity.
The monument is located on Rue de la Croix Percée, northeast of the commune, at the intersection of two old roads: one linking Lorrez to the hamlet of Grand Creilly, the other leading from Boisroux to Voulx and Géfontaine. This location reflects its historic role as a landmark for travellers and religious processions.
The cross, of hosannière type, is composed of granite, flint, limestone and sandstone. It is 1.95 m high and rests on a parallelepipedic limestone base, adorned with four columns with vegetable capitals. An inscription "1771" appears on a sculpted circle between the arms, showing a restoration by Étienne Villard, stone tailor at Préaux, in 1770. A second restoration took place in 1981 by the association AHVOL.
This type of cross, common in Brie and Gâtinais, was mainly used for religious processions. Other similar examples exist in the area, such as the cross of Place Royale in Moret-sur-Loeng or that of Place Saint-Paul in Jouarre.
