Cross of Landoma (Case ZS 99): registration by order of 20 March 1934
Origin and history
The Cross of Landoma is a religious monument located in Pleugriffet, Morbihan, Brittany. Dating from the 17th century, it is located near the place called "La Fourchette", at the crossing of the departmental road 764 and the rue du Stade. Its architecture is distinguished by a cylindrical barrel decorated with a ring, surmounted by a carved cross representing Christ on one side and the Virgin with the Child on the other, with secondary characters on the side faces.
The Landoma Cross was listed as a historical monument on March 20, 1934, recognizing its heritage value. This type of cross, typical of Brittany, often served as a spiritual and social landmark for local communities, marking crossroads or gathering places. Its current location, close to road axes, suggests a historic role of marking or protection for travellers.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a protected monument and describe its architectural features. The precise location, although noted as "passable" (level 5/10), is documented by GPS coordinates and a postal address in the Merimée database. No information is available on its current accessibility or contemporary use.
