Mission Cross: Order of 15 June 1932

Origin and history

The Liverdun Mission Cross is a monument classified as a Historical Monument since 15 June 1932. Located in the municipality of Liverdun, in Meurthe-et-Moselle (Department 54), it is an integral part of the religious and cultural heritage of the Grand Est region, formerly Lorraine. This type of cross, often erected on religious missions, was used to mark a spiritual event or a period of renewal in local life.

Liverdun, like many communes in Lorraine, has had a history marked by strong religious influences, especially Catholics. Mission crosses were generally installed following preaching or missions organized by religious orders to revive the faith of the people. These monuments, often made of stone or metal, were points of assembly and devotion for the inhabitants.

Their presence reflects the importance of religion in the daily life and social organization of the rural and urban communities of the time.
