Origin and history

The cross of Néant-sur-Yvel is a historic monument located in the village of Néant-sur-Yvel, in the department of Morbihan, Brittany. Dating from the 16th century, it is located on the church square and is distinguished by its carved stone, typical of the monumental Breton crosses of this period. It bears witness to the local craftsmanship and religious piety of the period.

The cross was inscribed as historical monuments on two occasions: the first time by order of 30 May 1927, and the second time on 24 August 1993. These successive protections underline its heritage importance and the desire to preserve this 16th century vestige. Today, it belongs to the commune of Néant-sur-Yvel and remains a central element of the village's landscape.

Architecturally, the cross is characterized by its carefully carved stone structure. Although ornamental details are not described in the sources, its location on the church square suggests a role both religious and social. It probably served as a reference point for community processions or gatherings, as was often the case for the crosses of that time in Brittany.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its precise location at 1 Church Square, 56430 None-on-Yvel. The Insee code of the municipality (56145) and its attachment to the diocese of Vannes reinforce its territorial anchor. The accuracy of its geographical location is estimated as fair (note 5/10), according to Monumentum data.
