Cross (Case E 77): registration by order of 31 March 1926
Origin and history
La Croix des Botmiliau is a religious monument located in the commune of Boqueho in the Côtes-d'Armor department of Brittany. Dated from the 17th century, it is precisely at the place called Kernedret. This type of cross, typical of the Breton heritage, often served as a landmark or symbol of devotion for local inhabitants.
The cross was listed as historic monuments by order of 31 March 1926, which is a testament to its heritage importance. It is now owned by the municipality of Boqueho. Crosses of this type, frequent in Brittany, were usually erected at crossroads, near churches or in gathering places, playing a spiritual and social role in rural communities.
In the 17th century, Brittany was a region marked by a strong cultural and religious identity. The monumental crosses, such as that of the Botmiliau, often reflected the piety of the local populations and served as landmarks in a landscape where there were frequent movements between villages and places of worship. Their presence was also linked to pilgrimage practices and religious processions, common at that time.
