16th Century Cross (Cd. ZC 66): inscription by decree of 31 March 1926
Origin and history
La Croix du XVIe siècle de Plésidy is a cross of road located in the commune of Plésidy, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, Brittany. It is precisely on the Bourbriac road, a historical axis of the region. This monument, typical of Breton Christian architecture, is representative of the road crosses erected during the Renaissance, often to mark places of pilgrimage or important crossroads.
The cross was listed as historical monuments by an order of 31 March 1926, recognizing its heritage value. This official protection underlines its importance in the cultural and religious landscape of Brittany. The cross of paths, like that of Plesidy, often served as spiritual and symbolic landmarks for travellers and inhabitants, while embodying local devotion.
From a historical point of view, the sixteenth century in Brittany is marked by a strong religious and artistic activity, with the construction of many Christian buildings and monuments. These crosses, often carved with symbolic motifs, reflect the beliefs and practices of the time. Their presence in the Breton landscape reflects the importance of faith and traditions in the daily life of rural communities of this period.
