17th century cross (cad. AB 25): inscription by decree of 24 March 1926

Origin and history

The 17th century cross of Plusquelc is a historical monument located in the commune of Plusquelc, Brittany. It is precisely the place of the Church, in the Côtes-d'Armor department. This cross, typical of Breton religious monuments, was erected during the seventeenth century, a period marked by a strong activity in the construction of religious buildings in the region.

The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by an order dated 24 March 1926. This official protection underscores its heritage importance and its role in local history. It is now owned by the municipality of Plusquellec, which guarantees its preservation and maintenance for future generations.

In the 17th century, the monumental crosses in Brittany often served as religious and social landmarks for local communities. They were usually erected near churches or in public squares, playing a central role in the spiritual and collective life of the inhabitants. These monuments also reflected the art and beliefs of the time, while marking the rural landscape of Brittany.
