Stone village cross dated 1684: by order of 14 June 1909

Origin and history

La Croix du village d'Attignéville is a stone monument erected in the 4th quarter of the 17th century, more precisely dated 1684. It is located in the commune of Attignéville, in the department of Vosges, in the region of Grand Est. Classified as a Historical Monument by decree of 14 June 1909, it belongs to the commune and bears witness to the local religious heritage of that time.

The village crosses, frequent in the French countryside, often served as a spiritual and social landmark for the inhabitants. In the seventeenth century, rural communities were strongly marked by the Catholic religion, and these monuments played a role in collective life, marking places of assembly or devotion. Their presence also reflected the importance of faith in daily organization and local traditions.

The location of this cross, at the approximate address of 562 Rue Saint-Lambert, is indicated with an accuracy considered fair (note of 5/10). It is listed in the Mérimé database under the code Insee 88015, attached to the municipality of Attignéville. No additional information is available on its current use, such as an opening to the visit or a tourist function.
