Origin and history

The 16th century cross of Graces, also known as the monk's cross, is a stone monument located in the municipality of Graces, in the Côtes-d'Armor department, in Brittany. It dates from the 16th century and is distinguished by its commemorative character and its inscription as historical monuments.

This cross was erected in memory of Guillaume Le Court, guardian of the Cordeliers installed at Graces and masterpiece of the new monastery of the city. Its inscription as a historic monument was formalized by a decree of 22 February 1926, thus underlining its heritage importance.

The precise location of the cross is indicated as being at the approximate address of 1 Impasse de la Fontaine, in the communal territory of Graces. It is now owned by the municipality and is one of the protected elements of the local heritage.

The Cordeliers, a Franciscan order present at Graces, played a significant role in the religious and social life of the region during this period. The cross, as a religious and memorial symbol, reflects the importance of this order and its members, like Guillaume Le Court, in local history.
