18th century cross (case AL not cadastralized; public domain): registration by decree of 7 December 1925

Origin and history

The Trestraou Cross is a granite cross erected in the 18th century, located on a height overlooking the beach of Trestaou in Perros-Guirec, in the Côtes-d'Armor department. It consists of a three-step pink granite base and has two sculpted figures: the cross Christ facing east, and a woman with her hands joined west. Its location, at the intersection of Rue de la Clarté and Rue Paul-Sallou, makes it a landmark visible from the coast.

The cross was inscribed as historical monuments by ministerial decree on 7 December 1925. This ranking reflects its heritage importance, both for its architectural style and for its anchoring in the local landscape. Owned by the municipality of Perros-Guirec, it illustrates Breton religious art of the modern era, marked by the use of granite, an emblematic material of the region.

In the 18th century, the monumental crosses played a central role in the lives of Breton communities, serving as both territorial markers, places of devotion and gathering points. Their location on heights or at crossroads often symbolized divine protection on local lands and activities, such as fishing or agriculture, essential to Perros-Guirec and its coastal region.
