The wrought iron cross of Sorgeat is a classified historical monument, sealed on a granite base above a terrace in front of the village church. This terrace, where many bones have been discovered, suggests the existence of an old cemetery at this site. The cross, typical of the eighteenth century, has the traditional attributes of crucifixion, including a thorny crown in its centre, reflecting the religious art of the era.

Classified by ministerial decree on 5 July 1979, this cross belongs to the municipality of Sorgeat, in the department of Ariège (Occitanian region). Its precise location, in front of the church (Cadastre Park E 987), and its heritage protection underline its local importance. The GPS coordinates available place the monument near La Molle, although the accuracy of the location is considered poor (level 5/10).

The monument illustrates the role of cemetery or parish crosses in the Occitan villages of the eighteenth century, often linked to funeral and religious practices. These crosses served as a spiritual and commemorative landmark, marking the entrance to sacred spaces such as churches or cemeteries. Their presence attests to the anchoring of Christianity in the daily life of the rural communities of the time, where funeral rites occupied a central place.
