Cross and tidal barn of the Oizerolle (cad. AB 1) : inscription by decree of 21 March 1988
Origin and history
The cross and the tithe barn of Oizerolle, located in the commune of La Bussière-sur-Ouche in Burgundy-Franche-Comté, are an architectural complex whose origins date back to the 12th century. The preserved elements bear witness to several phases of construction, extending until the eighteenth century, thus reflecting stylistic and functional evolutions over nearly six centuries. This monument is representative of tithe barns, agricultural buildings linked to the collection of tithe, an ecclesiastical tax levied on harvests in the Middle Ages.
The barn and cross of Oizerolle were inscribed as a Historic Monument by order of 21 March 1988, thereby recognizing their heritage value. Their location, although documented (approximate address: 5097 L'Oiserolle), remains imprecise according to the current geographical location criteria, with a note of 5/10 for accuracy. This type of monument was generally at the heart of the economic and social life of the Burgundy countryside, serving as a place for storing crops and a religious symbol for local communities.
The periods of construction identified (XIIe, XIIIe, XVIe and first half of the 18th century) suggest successive adaptations, probably linked to agricultural needs, changes in ownership or changes in construction techniques. The absence of detailed sources on the sponsors or artisans who have worked towards its realization limits the knowledge of its specific history, but its inscription in the title of Historical Monuments makes it a protected witness of the rural Burgundy heritage.
