Origin and history

The cross on the road to Trôo in Sougé is a historical monument located in the municipality of Troo, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. This monument, whose location is considered satisfactory, has been included in the inventory of Historic Monuments since 19 October 1928. It now belongs to the municipality and is located precisely at 2 Chemin de Rome, according to the GPS coordinates available.

The road crosses, such as Troo's, were often erected at crossroads or along roads to mark a place of prayer, assembly or commemoration. In the rural context of Loir-et-Cher, these monuments played an important social and religious role, serving as landmarks for travellers and pilgrims. Their presence also reflected local piety and community organization around shared Christian symbols.
