Cross near the church: inscription by decree of 16 June 1926

Origin and history

The cross near the church of Perchay is a historical monument built in the 15th and 16th centuries. Located in the commune of Perchay (Val-d'Oise), it was registered by ministerial decree on 16 June 1926, becoming a protected part of the local heritage. Its location, close to the church, suggests a symbolic or commemorative role in the religious and community life of the time.

In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, monumental crosses were often erected near churches or paths to mark places of devotion, parish boundaries or significant events. In the French Vexin, a region to which Le Perchay belongs, these monuments also reflected the importance of the Christian faith in the social and spatial organization of villages. Their presence reflected collective piety and served as a visual landmark for the faithful.

The Perchay Cross, owned by the municipality, is today a vestige of this tradition. Although the archives do not specify its sponsor or its exact building context, its registration as Historic Monuments in 1926 underscores its heritage value. Available data from the Merimée database and Monumentum indicate an approximate location at 2 Grande Rue, with cartographic accuracy considered to be satisfactory (level 6/10).
