The Order of 24 February 1944 listing the historical monuments of the Grand Merimont Cross (Box L 1272) is repealed by Order of 15 September 2014

Origin and history

The wrought iron cross of the Grand Mérimont is a cross of road located in Fay-de-Bretagne, in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region. Dated from the 18th century, it is characteristic of the crosses of the Passion, often erected to mark places of devotion or crossroads.

Listed as historical monuments in 1944, this cross underwent a particular statutory evolution. In 2013, it was reclassified as a protected movable object to allow its movement in the town of Fay-de-Bretagne, without creating a new protection perimeter. However, it was finally removed from historical monuments by order of 15 September 2014.

The cross was initially located on the cadastre under reference L 1272, at the approximate address of 36 Merimont, in the commune of Fay-de-Bretagne. Its status has evolved according to the needs of preservation and local development, reflecting the challenges of preserving the movable and real estate heritage in France.
