Cure, including the annex building, the garden floor, the fence wall and the main access gate (Box DW 146): inscription by order of 22 October 1998

Origin and history

The presbytery of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul Church, located in Saint-Pierre on the island of La Réunion, dates from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. This building, still very authentic, was built between 1751 and 1765, following the foundation of the parish in 1732. It accompanies the church with the same name and bears witness to the religious architecture of the colonial era.

The presbytery has been included in the additional inventory of Historic Monuments since October 22, 1998. It includes not only the main building, but also an annex building, garden floor, fence wall and main access gate. This site is now owned by a cult association.

Located at 66 Auguste-Babet Street in downtown Saint-Pierre, this monument reflects the religious and architectural history of La Réunion. Its state of conservation and authenticity make it a remarkable example of the local heritage, linked to the evolution of the Catholic community on the island.
