Origin and history
The Monument to the Dead of War 14-18 in Teich, located in Gironde, was built in 1926 and inaugurated in 1927. It is presented in the form of a flat stone stele, in front of which is supported a bronze bas-relief representing a family in collectment in front of a soldier's grave. This monument is a collective work by Bordeaux architect Jourde and sculptor Chaveron, also from Bordeaux.
The monument was designed to honour Teich soldiers who died during World War I. It was registered as a Historical Monument by order of 3 February 2015, thus protecting the entire structure, including the bas-relief. The precise location of the monument is indicated as at 33470 Le Teich in New Aquitaine, although GPS coordinates suggest an approximation to Audenge.
The monument is the property of the municipality of Teich. It embodies local collective memory and mourning of families who lost relatives during the conflict. The quality of its geographical location is considered fair (note of 5/10), and a photograph of the monument is attributed to Marcel Delboy, under Creative Commons license.
