The Monument to the Dead of the War 1870-1871 known as the Mobile is located in Saint-Ouen-de-Thuberville, in the department of Eure in Normandy. This monument, dedicated to the soldiers of the Franco-Prussian war, is distinguished by its total inscription in the inventory of Historical Monuments since 2022, including its enclosure gate and its stone and wrought iron entrance gate. It is located precisely at the site known as Maison-Brûlée, on a cadastral plot in section E.
The site is communal property and its location, although considered satisfactory a priori (note 6/10), remains approximate according to available GPS data. No information is provided on its accessibility to the public, its tourist vocation or its current use (visits, events). Official sources, such as Monumentum and the Merimée base, confirm its protected status but do not detail its construction history or sponsors.
This type of monument reflects the local memorial effort after the 1870-1871 conflict, a period marked in Normandy by post-war economic and social reconstruction. Monuments to the dead of that time often served as a place of community gathering, highlighting the sacrifice of the Mobiles — soldiers of the National Guard mobilized in emergency. Their presence in small communes illustrates the national impact of this conflict, even in areas less affected by direct fighting.
