Origin and history

The Diane de Poitiers Tower is an emblematic monument to the city of Privas, in the department of Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built in the 15th century, it is the main entrance to a private hotel of the same name, located in the heart of the city, at the corner of the Place de la République. Its architecture reflects the late medieval style, typical of the urban buildings of this period.

The tower was classified as historic monuments in 1935, specifically by an order of April 5 of that year. This decree specifically protects the gate and the stair turret, a prominent architectural element of the building. Today, the Diane de Poitiers Tower remains an important testimony to Privas' built heritage, integrated into the urban landscape and accessible to the public.

Available sources, including Wikipedia and Monumentum, confirm its status as a historical monument and its precise location on the Place de la République. The Merimée base, a reference for architecture, also lists this monument under the code Insee 07186, corresponding to the town of Privas. The tower is thus a point of cultural and tourist interest for the region, illustrating the local history and architectural evolution of the Ardèche.
