Ten tumuli d'Ibarletta (Case B 4, 6, 58): entry by order of 16 June 1960

Origin and history

The ten tumuli of Ibarletta constitute a set of funeral monuments located in the commune of Alçay-Alçabéhéty-Sunharette, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. These structures, typical of protohistoric periods, are implanted in the Ibarnaba Valley, a site whose location is estimated to be poor (level 5/10) according to available data. Their presence bears witness to ancient funeral practices, although precise archaeological details are not provided in current sources.

The site was officially recognized and protected by an inscription under the Historical Monuments on 16 June 1960, under the cadastral reference B 4, 6, 58. This administrative protection emphasizes the heritage importance of tumuli, without their exact dating or cultural attribution being explicitly documented in the sources consulted. Their approximate location, near the so-called place 5131 Equirassy, suggests an anchor in a rural landscape of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, marked by an ancient history and collective funeral traditions.

The commune of Alçay-Alçabéhéty-Sunharette, attached to the department of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (code Insee 64015) and to the region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, houses a discreet but significant archaeological heritage. These tumuli, although little known to the general public, illustrate the richness of protohistoric remains in Aquitaine, a region where the traces of ancient societies are often preserved in areas far from the major urban axes.

No information is available on public access, associated services (visits, accommodation) or recent archaeological research on the site. The data are limited to their legal status and geographical location, leaving open the question of their in-depth study or tourist exploitation.
