Origin and history
The Dolmen de Pech-Lapeyre, located in Limogne-en-Quercy in the Lot, is a megalithic monument dating from the Neolithic. This type of construction, characteristic of this period, was generally used as a collective burial or ritual place for prehistoric communities. Its list classification in 1889 as a Historic Monument shows its heritage and archaeological importance.
In Neolithic, local populations lived mainly in agriculture, livestock and gathering. Dolmens, like Pech-Lapeyre, often marked the landscape and played a central role in funeral and symbolic practices. Their construction reflected a structured social organization, capable of mobilizing resources and a collective labour force to erect these imposing stone structures.
